
THE GOLD OF BYZANTINE KINGS
The mask of pure gold which excavated Bulgarian archeologists near town Kazanlak, 250 kms eastward of Sofia has weight about one half kilogramme and its price is estimated to 50 millions Euros. Further they found silver armoured shirt, sword, vessels with illustration of Hercules and bronze head with weight 10 kg, too.
Found treasure belonged once to the Byzantine kings's court. The gold mask represent probably the one of the most powerful, Tereso, who founded a large Byzantine empire five centuries B. C. The biggest surprise for specialists was intact discovery - because in this part of East Europe the archeologists compete with robbers, long ago. In this case, too. The robbers were already one night after discovery on the place and grubed it to perfection.
Once upon a time a rich Byzantines settled territory from Carpathian Mountains till to Asia Minor, centre of their empire was at the territory of this day Bulgaria. Besides horse-breeding they busied especially at production and metals processing. The area was rich at gold. They excelled in medicine, music and art of war. Persian and Keltic invasions weakened them and finally their country became a part of Roman empire in the year 46 A. D.
