A TENT INTO DESERT

At the exhibition in the New York Museum of the Modern Art was one of the most interesting exhibits from more than 300 designs and prototypes a unique single-place tent, which will help a man to survive in the conditions of extreme heats on deserts. Tent was developed from research realizing for Europe Space Agency (ESA) - usage of infatable structures in hot and extreme conditions. Infatable structures are taken for suitable to construction next bases on the Moon or the Mars, have a small volume by transport, big volume after lay out and low weight. Unique tent for desert conditions use these qualities. Two architects designed it, Italian Arturo Vittori and Swiss Arturo Vogler, who founded a design studio Architecture and Vision in the year 2003. First of all they analysed conditions in the hot desert and found out how to use them for creating a shelter, which inside should be relatively cold by day and warm at night, when a temperature in the desert drop. Architects by the construction used knowledge, that the temperature over the desert's surface relative quickly goes down with height. The temperature over the desert's surface can reach till 60oC, but in the height of 3 ms over the surface can be fully another. Just thanks to that knowledge has a desert tent unusual shape. It's high till 210 cm, so one can enter inside upright. On the top side of tent is placed small electric fan, which continuous blow a colder air to interior. Ventilator operate with electric energy from flexible solar cells placed on external tent's surface. Cells have waltage 4,5 W. Support construction is create of two infatable V-shaped pipes. Tent is 226 cm long and 210 cm wide, so it's comfortable lie in it. Tent is made of very strong textile, which is covered with thin layer of aluminium, well reflected thermical radiance. At night, when desert radiate heat, the ground may cool till under freezing point. But the air is a good insulator and two metres over the ground is much warmer. Therefore the ventilator works at night, too, when blow warmer air into tent. Tent should resist the wind at speed till 120 kms/h.
